"I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty

Yesterday I participated in my 7th MLK Celebration with John Muir and Walker schools. It is an honor and privilege to sing the songs with my students and there is hardly anything more beautiful in the world to me than their young voices raised to Pete Seegers "If I Had a Hammer" or "Oh Freedom". Here is John Muir student body accompanied by our community band singing Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" at the assembly yesterday. The band is comprised of 4th-8th graders who meet once a week for 1/2 hour.

Music as a Language! with Victor Wooten

The debate rages. Is music a language or something else entirely? My working theory is that it functions as an extension of language. I do believe that applying the pedagogical strategies currently being utilized in language acquisition such as immersion, modeling and low anxiety learning environments, could be powerful teaching tools in music!

See what Mr. Victor Wooten has to say..
