Let's Play Music! Sing some songs!!!

Image result for music jam

I am so excited to begin the next part of my vision for Talent Community Music!!!!
DO you know a few chords, like to sing (or play along with people who like to sing)? This is for you!!!
Have you had private lessons but phased out of your practice regime? Are you just feeling stuck musically?
Come explore the learning opportunities provided in a Music Jam model. Around the country music instructors are beginning to better understand the unique learning opportunities of the Music Jam model and I am ON BOARD!! It is after all how I learned. I might have been in music school and able to play guitar... but I will tell you that my most practical and utilized music skills were learned in a jam circle, playing with the likes of Jef Fretwell, David Hampton, Justin Gordon, Jeff Addicott and many other accomplished players.

It's just more fun!!!!!...and I truly believe it is how music, whether you want to focus on skill development, music theory or composition, should be learned.

This will not just be playing and singing songs.. I will be adding in anything that I can see the group needs to work on, or wants to work on. ASK ME QUESTIONS!!!!

Details:
When: Right now we will be at the Talent Public Library meeting room on March 19th and 26th, 6:30-7:30.

How much: $15 for each session. Pay at the door!!!

"I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty

Yesterday I participated in my 7th MLK Celebration with John Muir and Walker schools. It is an honor and privilege to sing the songs with my students and there is hardly anything more beautiful in the world to me than their young voices raised to Pete Seegers "If I Had a Hammer" or "Oh Freedom". Here is John Muir student body accompanied by our community band singing Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" at the assembly yesterday. The band is comprised of 4th-8th graders who meet once a week for 1/2 hour.

Music as a Language! with Victor Wooten

The debate rages. Is music a language or something else entirely? My working theory is that it functions as an extension of language. I do believe that applying the pedagogical strategies currently being utilized in language acquisition such as immersion, modeling and low anxiety learning environments, could be powerful teaching tools in music!

See what Mr. Victor Wooten has to say..
